Description

Chestnut Microcrystalline Wax Stick is a blend of high quality waxes rich in microcrystalline wax – a wax that has nothing to do with bees and is known for the fineness of its crystals.

This is the same wax that Chestnut use in their tinned Microcrystalline Wax Paste, but in this case it's in a solid block form with no solvent. This means there’s no waiting around for it to dry before buffing it. When applied, it knits down to form a very dense coating making it very water resistant. It is not waterproof, but it means that it will offer protection to items that are likely to come into contact with water for short periods of time.

Microcrystalline waxes also have a higher melting point than other waxes traditionally used to make polishes, the benefit of which is that repeated handling of items finished in Chestnut Microcrystalline Wax Stick won’t finger mark in the same way, because its melting point is higher than normal body temperature.

Best used over a base coat of Chestnut Cellulose Sanding Sealer, switch on the lathe and pass the stick over the revolving surface of the work piece to apply a thin coat of the Microcrystalline Wax. There is no drying time required so you can immediately buff it to a high shine with a clean cloth or tissue. It can also be used as a top coat over other finishes such as Chestnut Melamine Lacquer and Chestnut Acrylic Lacquer as a means of preventing finger marks on the finished article.

Chestnut Microcrystalline Wax is certified compliant with the requirements of EN71-3, making is safe to use on toys and nursery furniture.

Chestnut Microcrystalline Wax Stick relies of friction generated by the revolving workpiece in the lathe to melt the wax onto the surface. You therefore need to run your lathe at at least 2400rpm or higher in order to generate enough friction.

Microcrystalline wax in a stick form is perfect for small pieces on the lathe, but Chestnut Microcrystalline Wax Paste would be a better alternative or larger pieces or for stationary work that is not on a lathe.
